The MICHELIN guide Main Cities of Europe 2010 will go on sale on March 17 for £14.99.
This 29th edition of the guide covers 44 cities in 20 countries*, including one newly added city: Salzburg, Austria.
Written in English, the MICHELIN guide Main Cities of Europe is intended primarily for business travellers and tourists visiting leading European cities and who want to be able to easily find, for example, a hotel that is near the convention centre or a restaurant where they can invite a customer to lunch after an appointment.
The guide features a wealth of useful information, including city maps showing the location of hotels and restaurants, key words for defining each establishment’s style, practical information about each city: sites to visit, tips for getting around town and tourist information.
The 2010 edition of the MICHELIN guide Main Cities of Europe features a selection of 3,257 establishments, of which 1,542 hotels and 1,715 restaurants, in all comfort and price categories.
Readers of the new edition will note, for example, the rapid development of gourmet dining in Budapest, where a restaurant has been awarded its first star and four additional restaurants now boast the Bib Gourmand award, indicating a high quality, affordable, three-course meal. In addition, Stockholm now has a new two-star restaurant: Frantzén/Lindeberg. Above all, the 2010 edition showcases the importance of value-for-money, with 58 new Bib Gourmand restaurants added to the selection this year.
In all, the MICHELIN guide Main Cities of Europe 2010 includes 231 Bib Gourmand restaurants and 341 starred restaurants, of which 271 with one star (41 new), 55 with two stars (5 new) and 15 with three stars (1 new).
In another new development, the MICHELIN guide Main Cities of Europe 2010 selection is now available on iPhone, as are all restaurants listed in any of the MICHELIN guides for Europe, thanks to software developed by ViaMichelin. The application for the Main Cities of Europe guide is priced at €14.99.
Once downloaded, the information is stored directly on the phone, which is an enormous advantage when users cannot connect or are traveling abroad. Another new feature for 2010 enables users to conduct searches using the name of either the chef or the restaurant. This application will be available in mid-June.
From a small, 400-page red guide distributed free of charge to motorists and containing a wealth of useful information on such topics as tyre changes and vehicle maintenance, the MICHELIN guide has developed over the years to become the benchmark in gourmet dining. Today, it covers 23 countries and features a selection of more than 45,000 hotels and restaurants, with the goal of making travel easier and more enjoyable. The guide has always promoted the Michelin Group’s mission that is expressed in the corporate baseline: “a better way forward.”
